If you search the term “SMART Goals with Google Analytics, you will probably find a lot of materials to explain how it is so important to know to understand your site and its conversion.

Using SMART goals can put you on the fast-track to success. You can set up “smart goals” on the platform for your business. Every successful business has set and goals to attain a wanted result.  

Let’s breakdown what S.M.A.R.T stands for. 

SMART Goals are about creating relevant, obtainable goals that improve your overall business objectives.

S.M.A.R.T stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely.


You need to know what you want to achieve. Being super vague about your goals will run you in circles. Figure out what’s the business’s main issue and solve it in one sentence. For example, “I want to be at the top of the search engine” isn’t specific enough. What you want is more website clicks and more digitally exposure, because you are not seeing traffic on your page. 

You have to be 100% clear about your general objective for the business or website. The more specific the goal, the easier it will be for your team to come abroad. 


The only way to know if you are hitting your goals is to measure. The best thing about digital marketing is that everything is measurable. You have to be precise in ensure you know how to measure significant goals. Always included a percent or a number range in your goal to guarantee you are completing your KPI. For example, “We need more website clicks via social media” is a general measurable goal. “We aim to have a 2% increase in traffic via social media link buttons.” is a more precise goal. 


Of course, we all have huge dreams for our businesses, but sometimes “Go big or go home” will just send you home. Creating goals that are attainable is the key to success. Understand that growth does take time and focus on small milestones. Your digital goals should require you to expand, but they should be within reach if you put in the work.


Ask yourself: “Does this matter to the business right now?” “Does this align with our current focuses?”

Then asks yourself: “How will this affect the business if I do not meet these KPI?”

Figure out how your goals fit in the business’s larger picture. For example, the goal is to increase Pinterest Board pins of new products, make sure you understand how that will benefit the business.


Having deadlines will help you stay motivated with your goals. It creates an endpoint for a goal to move on to another. For example, “We aim to have a 2% increase in traffic via social media link buttons.” to something like, “In 3 months, we aim to have a 2% increase in traffic via social media link buttons.”
